NHI Bandung Tourism Polytechnic held a Guest Lecture featuring an international speaker, Dr. Elaine C.L. Yang, a Senior Lecturer in Tourism from Griffith University, Australia, on September 2, 2024. The event covered two key themes highly relevant to the current developments in the global tourism industry.
The first theme, moderated by Mrs. Eka Nuraisah Rosiana, was “Tourism and Gender Equality: Challenges and Opportunities,” aimed at students with the goal of raising awareness about the critical role of women in the tourism industry. Dr. Yang discussed the significant contributions women have made and the challenges they face in the tourism sector. This session sparked a lively discussion about the barriers women often encounter in pursuing careers in the industry, as well as how gender equality can be promoted through collective efforts in the future.
Meanwhile, the second theme, moderated by Mrs. Endang Komesty Sinaga, addressed “Researching Women and Marginalised Groups in Tourism: Innovations and Ethics,” intended for the faculty of Poltekpar NHI Bandung. In this session, Dr. Yang discussed innovative approaches in researching women and marginalized groups within the tourism industry. Ethical issues and responsibilities in research were also explored in depth, opening new perspectives for academics in studying the roles and challenges of these groups in tourism.
The event was attended by the management, faculty, and students of NHI Bandung Tourism Polytechnic, who actively participated in the Q&A and discussion sessions. Through this event, it is hoped that awareness of the importance of gender equality in the tourism sector will grow, and a commitment to creating a more inclusive and equitable environment in the global tourism industry will be strengthened.
